stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding Arduino Uno

I just recently got a Arduino Uno, a couple of days ago I it when I was uploading a sketch it said "stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding" i've tried using it plugged into a different USB port and it still says the same thing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds similar to this. What rev Uno do you have?

Yeah, i'm pretty sure it's an R3 it came in the getting started with arduino kit from make.

Sorry, rev3 or whatever.

Great, that means you have the 16u2 chip like in that link. Did you try them?

Before you get into all that advanced technical procedures, it may be a simpler thing. We need more info from you.

What platform are you using, Windows, Mac, or Linux?
What Arduino IDE version did you install?
Were you able to install the appropriate USB drivers?
Did you select the Uno from the IDE Tools->Boards menu?
Did you select the correct serial port from the IDE Tools->Serial Port menu?

Okay, I was in a hurry to post it because I just got into programming and whatnot. Platform: Mac OSX 10.6.8 32bit (If that's important)

What IDE I version I installed: I think it was 1.0.4.

Did I install the appropriate USB drivers? Yes, it was working great the first time I used it.

Did I select the Uno from the boards menu? Yes.

Did I select the correct serial? Yes. And thanks for responding
