The speed of a motor must be controlled using a potentiometer and a transistor arduino uno R3

The speed of a motor must be controlled using a potentiometer and a transistor.
The connection must be made using the equipment in the Arduino starter Kit. Take 5V from the board and 9V from a external battery. The potentiometer is 0-10KΩ. how do I do this? i'm new to this and 1'm struggling to know where to connect what.

trying to get us to do your homework?

what did you try ? draw your attempt on a piece of paper, labelling the components and explain your thinking.

(you have a diagram...)

How do you know the actual motor speed?

Where is your honor? You should at least offer 50 bucks for your homework to be done.

That project is not in the starter kit.
Where did you get that schematic?

Did someone tell you to do that, or are you just experimenting using the parts that come in the starter kit?

The picture doesn't match the schematic, but I understand you have stuck an Arduino between Rp and R2. I may be wrong but if it is a transistor I think you need a base resistor.

The first thing I would do is use Serial.print() to verify that you are reading the pot as you expect.

Then connect something simple like an LED to the output pin D9, and check it gets brighter when you increase the pot value.

Then you can add the transistor and motor. Also put an LED on the output of the transistor.

I'm not even sure an Arduino is needed in this homework... May be to read the voltage on the potentiometer ...

I see you deleted your picture

I would guess the Arduino is needed as this is a home work test .

Clues …. Analog input , PWM output , transistor as a switch - you probably have already covered these in class …
