USB to RS485/422 on Linux

Can someone recommend a decent USB to RS485/422 converter for a Linux box?
While many are on the Internet not many mention Linux as a compatible OS.
I would rather hear from my fellow Arduino user(s) as which is the most affordable and
functional.

Why would the OS on the PC have any affect on a piece of external hardware?

Well you may have answered my question?
I gathered from many descriptions that driver software was needed with the converter.
If no software is needed, any converter shall work?

Just to be clear...

I want to send the Arduino serial commands from my desktop via RS485
and vice versa.
