I am very new to arduino. But I have a project for school to make an arduino controller and wanted to know if it's possible to disassemble an existing xbox one controller shell and use it's buttons/joysticks/triggers and integrate it with the arduino. I hope I explained it clear! If it's not possible or if you have any questions please post!
Yes, possible. But you are really avoiding the question, CAN you do it! Are you willing to try and do you have the tools to do it?
Searched for 'Xbox One' here in the forum?
I don’t have the tools for it but I am willing to try and learn. Is it hard to do for beginners?
Possibly.
But let's first find out what you mean with Arduino controller, what's it supposed to do?
For my school project we need to make an arduino controller for a game we are making. I had the idea to use the shell of an xbox controller so it has a nice grip to it.
So I only plan to keep the hardware of the Xbox controller and have the arduino inside instead of the regular board it’s using.
I know that this is a very roundabout way of making it and highly impractical but I thought it would be a fun project.
Thanks for responding!
I don't think it'll be that difficult, the controller itself. Interfacing buttons etc from the Xbox controller could be tricky, depending how it's made.
I'm not familiar with an xbox controller but I assume that it has several buttons and 1 or 2 joysticks?
When you strip out the innards that you are not keeping, what will be left? Is there a board that all those inputs connect to, or are the internal electronics all on the same board that the buttons and joysticks connect to?
I seem to recall a similar controller device where the buttons and joystick were mounted on (i.e. soldered to) the main circuit board. Removing the board meant that there was nothing for the buttons and joystick to fix to.
Perhaps it would help if you were able to provide photos of the xbox controller with the cover off etc.
First get a soldering iron so you can remove the original wires from all the switches and potentiometers and joystick devices, so you can attach new wires for your project. Probably need some pliers and screwdrivers and wire cutters.
