Using cnc shield v3 and arduino Uno IO

I was thinking to use the CNC shield and put it on an Uno. But I was looking at pictures and it looks like the shield takes up all the IO. I'm hoping to still use some IO to pick up sensors and such.

Do I have to use the Mega, but I think the Mega has it's own shield that takes up the entire board as well. Ultimiately, a raspberry pi will have to talk to the arduino. I can use either digital IO or use modbus RTU.

Will I be able to do this?

The schematic diagram of the shield will show if the pin is in-use by the shield or passed-through as an open pin for your use.
