Water level sensor, no signs of life, bread board powered, potentiometer woes

I power it through either the USB port or using a power supply connected to the DC Power Jack (circular port).

How many volts go through the USB port?

How many volts go through the DC jack?

I'll sure try to do it just as it lays it out in the tutorial!! I don't want to fry any more components!

This is the hexagon "key" thingy that connect to the top of the potentiometer?

Yeah, the parts and the wiring.

I took another look at how I have it wired and it may be wrong. For example, I don't think I have pins 20 and 21 wired correctly.

I assume you are talking about the barrel connector. Again whatever you put there. It needs a minimum of 7V but preferably no more then 12V for the arduino to operate properly.

There is no POT. pots middle pin is VDC/ACOUT
also its not shorted to breadboard. Approved.

GUYS I UNDERSTAND! The breadboard has no ground. It does not work. Potentionmeter needed.

also approve larry

vcc and vcc dont forget

Stupid?
Vss means ground

GND, 0v, and Vss are synonymous.

Ohhh...okay...thank you.

It works now!!

might need some calibrating, and I want to add a buzzer or alarm of some sort that goes off when the water level is low. Plus water-proof and dog-proof the arduino board. But that falls outside the scope of this question.

Thank you everyone for your guidance!

Tom

Glad it worked
Now you need a pump and water reservoir to automatically fill the bowel

HI, @knowltonArduino

Now you need to draw of your circuit, a picture of a hand drawn circuit in jpg, png?
Hand drawn and photographed is perfectly acceptable.
Please include ALL hardware, power supplies, component names and pin labels.

Please no Fritzy.

Why do I have to do that? The tutorial on geek pub has already done that.

Amen. That will be version 2.0, LOL.

By reverse engineering YOUR project, you may find wiring differences that you assumed were not there.

So don't copy the tutorial schematic, make your own from YOUR project.
