Water level sensor upside down

Hello, I'm currently working on my uni project. I'm familiar with programming but not much Arduino. Here I need to use the water level (image is attached)

Can I use this sensor upside down?
Yes, I know that the common way is to use the circuit part to the upside and the sensor area to the bottom. But in my case, it is much easier to use the other way around. Is that possible?

Welcome to the forum

Are you intending to waterproof the components and connectors in the sensor ?

Yes.

It just doesn't make sense, because no sensor values are determined this way.

Yes, Only the sensor area will be exposed to water.

I would be interested to hear how you intend to do the waterproofing

I also thought about it. Let me try to convert the readings upside down :smiling_face_with_tear:

Clever. But make sure you can easily replace the sensor when the copper fingers get corroded. Be sure only the copper fingers are inside the cup. They are the sensing component.

I see a container. Is this to collect rainwater?
You can't leave those sensors immersed in water.
The metal strips will rot away in a matter of days.
Leo..

Use carbon electrodes to detect water.

I use welding electrodes plated with copper.

The immersed copper will get removed but that’s not a issue.

You can add a very small amount of salt in the container too.

Stack several together, insulated with heat shrink, if you need indication of different levels,

Yes, but the blood rushes to your head, you have to be careful not to pass out.
