web editor will not upload code but desktop will

I have an Arduino Uno wifi ver 2. I am running Windows 10 and using Firefox. The web editor gives me the error "error uploading, check if selected board is available" I have the right board selected but I can't see a way to select a port to connect to. I have the desktop IDE installed and running, it has the board and the port selected and will upload code. I have tried reinstalling the desktop IDE and the web editor. I have reinstalled the card driver. I have turned off my anti-virus. No luck.
Any suggestions

Did you reboot the computer between each of those steps?

A few times but not every time. I will try it again with a fresh reboot.

rebooting the computer again did not work but I reinstalled the desktop IDE and used all the defaults, restarted the web editor and it finally saw the board on com3. It is working now. thanks for the help.

Glad to see that . All I did was listen!

Am I missing something? Why do we have to download something if we are using a web editor? We have chromebooks so we can't download. Is this a problem? Thank you.
BTW we are getting an error that we can't upload to our boards after we compile the programs (UNO R3)
