So I’m thinking of buying a Arduino Ethernet Shield 2 from the shop. I’m curious if I will be able to view a web app I made in JavaScript using its web server capabilities, and to make a mastodon bot. I’ve read on the page it can connect to the internet but I was wondering if I need a different type of arduino as there could be others for different things.
Please let me know, thanks.
Just want to make sure that I’m getting the right thing and not something totally different.
If you use a shield it is difficult to move to another type of board later on...
It is rather easy to run out of memory with uno, so you might want to take a more capable board. Boards with ten times more memory go for lower prices than uno...
The standard ethernet shield for Uno also fits on a Mega. If you have other stuff to go on the Arduino, you might be better off getting a Mega in the first place, as it has far more memory and the ethernet shield is a bit of a memory hog.
perhaps tell us what the project is?
draw up a requirement specification?
once you have a requirement specification you have some idea of the hardware required to implement it
there is a problem where it stops connecting after a while and the only solution is a hardware reset.
I haven't worked with it that much and have already discovered a couple of bugs in the libraries. It's not ready for prime time if you have an application where reliability is important.
I agree with @anon92864395 the ESP32 is a good choice - it has onboard WiFi, Bluetooth Classic and BLE, plenty of flash, SRM and IO facilities - fairly low cost at about £7 in UK
I may end up going with a PI, I only ask about an arduino because of my school project. I like how the arduino works and love the idea sort of speak. But I guess if the pi has less headaches I may end up going with that. The last time I checked tho lol, it was sort of expensive, but maybe… .
