Alright Bob I re-flashed the Micro controller , same result but I was wondering does it make a difference if I'm using Java Jre or JDK with the new GRBL1.1?
There was a caveat about Java and UGS but you would be better checking that out on the GITHUB site for UGS as I dont remember the details..
Did the re-flash / upload go through OK ?
if it did then chances are the UNO is OK and its could just be an UGS issue.
If not then we might need to look at why it did not go through and examine the IDE aspect.
Bob.
Yeah the flash went perfectly for the 100th time but I was wondering if it makes a difference if I use java jdk or Jre , also if the problem is UGS then what do you think the answer would be lol
So its NOT the IDE OR the board or the shield.
If I didn't ask earlier then now is the time to look at other general causes in the OS.
Current security / antivirus / antimalware ?
These have been seen to cause some issues but generally in the IDE and very few occasions with UGS itself.
Did you INSTALL and RUN UGS as ADMINISTRATOR ?
Should not have made a difference, but its is worth checking in case there is a minor issue with privileges in the OS.
What actual versions of JAVA are you running ?
Also 32 or 64 bit ?
Have both the latest SDK and JRE installed due to the types of testing I do here for Arduino related things and can swap profiles to use either. UGS runs fine under both profiles BTW.
64 bit seems better for my usage on a quad core.
Bob.
yes I run UGS as admin and as for security in windows 10 its all set to low , and anything else I can think that would amped the program to execute but I keep getting connected when I load the ugs then it shows the com port and the baud rate , also when I run Arduino without the shield you can see communication between the IDE and the pc but the functions on UGS just wont allow me to go further
Without UGS running at all.
Open the IDE.
Connect the board that has GRBL on it.
Then use the IDE and open the serial console.
Now select the correct baud rate and also select 115200 as the BAUD RATE and also select NO LINE ENDING in the serial console.
Type "$" ( no quotes )
Do you get anything ?
Also still awaiting full details of your security ?
Bob.
I just noticed something weird , when the ugs loads it starts with a red line and goes to the end and loads , well thats not happening , here it goes half way and then loads the program , when I use the wizard to connect with the arduino alone no shield , the two devices communicate but the ugs goes no further , the command line dont work the run and pause buttons are grayed out ,its sometihing with UGS for sure
I cannot reproduce that right now as mine is in the middle of some work but it sounds like that's what mine does.
if anyone else has a SPARE SETUP NOT IN USE ! then feel free to chime in for the newer UGS.
Bob.
My red line does not go to the end...It stops somewhere under the "3" in the splash screen then jumps right into the program.
Ok so loading the program is not the issue , so could it be a defective shield? ,or will UGS open with arduino stand alone without the shield?
UGS will talk directly to the UNO without the shield and appear for all intent and purpose to be working, Obviously nothing will happen but UGS does not know that as it only converses with the UNO and nothing else.
The UNO is only an in-between device that translates the G-code sent to it into signals for the shield.
We are not yet ready to install the shield until we know there is communication between UGS and the UNO.
I have some free time before I put the next job on the machine so will try snag some shot of what you should see.
Will also snag some shots of my settings in UGS so you can set yours the same and we will be seeing the same as I do.
Its a little early and i need some serious caffeine LOL.
Bob.
OK here goes...
May take me a few moments to mash this up so dont count on this post until I say so.
First are my actual settings in a ZIP file that you should be able to directly import to UGS.
In case you have any issues with that method I am slowly adding some screen shots that may have to carry over to a second post.
First pic is what I see when I do the actual connect to the board. moved screen around a little to get them in.
Second pic is the initial settings screen from UGS. There are a few tabs so I will try just do the more useful ones.
Third is the general appearance tab.
Fourth is one of the MISC tabs.
MY UGS from Bob.zip (4.27 KB)
Last two are the UGS tabs themselves.
Try match those settings where possible.
If you have any issues at any point STOP and come back here and let me know where the problem is.
Also note the initial screen shot in post one will probably have some different values to yours as My settings have been tweaked for my boards (something we dont need to do at this point)
SO that should suffice for now feel free to follow along from there.
Bob.
Goood Morning Bob , Yeah I know all that stuff , the only thing is that for some reason its not allowing the UGS program to fully execute so I can get to those windows , everything was working in Oct till Dec then I upgraded to windows 10 pro with 3 G of extra RAM and now I am where I am , very strange .As for windows 10 security I tried to disable as much as I could not knowing the software as good as I should ,I'm running Arduino software as Admin and the UGS as Admin , the Java file loads with no problem , there is communication between the ports since the LED's flash when trying to connect the IDE to the UGS , when I go to examples with the IDE and play with Blink duration it gets loaded and performs the delay of the led .What would be in the UGS or something else to stop the software from fully executing ?
You are NOT trying to connect the IDE to UGS.
You should be connecting UGS to GRBL on the board.
Did you follow any of the links I gave out earlier as they also say the same ?
FORGET the IDE at this point as we are not using it anymore...you got GRBL into the UNO according to your earlier posts.
Not sure how much further I can go here as one of us is missing a point somewhere and I am at a loss to see where that is/was ?
Bob.
Well Bob its working the problem was windows security and windows edge , I got everything back to normal and I thank you sooooooooooooooooooooo Much for your assistance your a gentleman and a scholar.
I hate EDGE not sure where it was involved for UGS not running though.
Win 10 security can be a PITA but so glad you found what you needed it will save what little hair I have left LOL.
Bob.
Thank you again for your assistance it was really appreciated
