Wireless Transmitter Project

Dear All,

I am doing the feasibility study for retrofiting my existing monitoring system which currently working in wire based system to wireless system.

my existing system comprises of:

  • 5 pressure transmitter Rosemount 3051 which working in 24 VDC power and 4-20 mA output
  • 1 data acquisition PLC with 8 channel analog input (3 channel for spare)
  • 1 PC for monitoring software.

each of pressure transmitter located in different place (about 10 meter difference) and connect to PLC analog input using 1 sqmm cable.

I plan to modify my wired based pressure transmitter become wireless pressure transmitter by adding a 4-20 mA shield and zigbee shield then send it wirelessly to our monitoring station. I try to find a product in the internet which match with my requirement and i found on Digi website (http://www.digi.com/products/wireless-modems-peripherals/wireless-range-extenders-peripherals/xbee-zb-adapters). This product price is around USD150. In my case, i have to buy 5 items for each of my pressure transmitter and my project budget is not that much. ( i know this product gives some input channels, but due to my system topology, we need 1 product for 1 pressure transmitter)

So i would like to hear any other idea or opinion for the lower cost solution. Thank you very much.

As no one else has replied ...

The link you posted just seems to be a expensive XBee device.
This is only a small part of the system.

If you are looking at an Arduino solution, I think your main consideration would be how to interface your existing sensors, to the Arduino.
i.e The Arduino UNO has 6 analogue inputs that are 12 bits and input values 0 to 5V.
11 digital IO (i.e D2 to D13) (TTL 5V)
