Hi, I am new to Arduino and I just want to ask if there is a difference using a xbee shield and a xbee breakout board?

A Shield is a board that plugs into the Arduino and has connectors ready to accept an Xbee module
A breakout board has connectors for a Xbee module and a series of output pins for testing or mounting on your own custom board.
