Yikes! Invalid device signature. for Atmega328p-AU

Hi all,
Recently, I decided to design my first PCB using Atmega328p-AU, I knew it would be challenging but I am enjoying the learning journey.
As a reference, I used Arduino Nano schematics to mimic the same set up, however, as I tried to use my Arduino UNO as ISP to burn a bootloader to a Atmega328p-AU, it unfortuantely throws an error regarding the signature, "Invalid device signature".

I read the numerous post in the forum regarding this, throubleshooted the wires to ensure its correctly set up, also checked that the options selected in Arduino IDE matches the chip i am using.

I suspect has something to do with my oscillator ( i ordered an oscilloscope, waiting for its arrival), I am not sure if the oscillator i chose is causing the issue: https://datasheet.lcsc.com/szlcsc/1912111436_Yangxing-Tech-X503216MSD4SC_C70680.pdf but any help or debugging suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My connections are essentially following the ones in Arduino page with a slight variation on the way power is delivered :

  • MOSI:11
  • MISO:12
  • SCK: 13
  • 5V and GND are independently power source (to ensure there is enough power)

The AVRDUDE_PROG 3.3 program helped me (download here: AVRDUDE_PROG)

I am currently using Arduino IDE + MCUdude (download here: MCUdude (Hans) · GitHub)

Best regards.

I already ordered on external programmer similar to that, however it will take time to arrive and specially with the holidays.
That is why i was trying to use an arduino uno to work as a Programmer
