12v Relay to 240v Connection

Hello, Im Trying to figure out how would i connect this dehumidifier to my 12v Relay and will be controlled and connected to an arduino uno. I've search and watched some tutorial but im still not comfortable on doing this as this is connected to a 220v AC.

hi, welcome to the community,

if you are using Arduino, I think you want a 5V relay module.
and then it's pretty straightforward.

A 12V relay needs a 12V DC power supply of at least 100mA, do you have that?
I would use a solid state relay, a 3 to 5 volt signal from Arduino will switch it ON / OFF. How many Watts does the dehumidifier use?

Despite what it says you may well find that type of relay will quickly fail switching the load you have .
Some have marginal clearances too.
I would use an optically isolated solids state relay , or a quality relay .

Hi, @amacana
Welcome to the forum.

Can please tell us the power rating of the dehumidifier?

Thanks.. Tom.. :grinning: :+1: :coffee: :australia:

Oh, yeah i forgot. Its say 220. and in the manual 100-240v for the adapter.

Yes, Here is my spare ssr. will this be enough?

Where do you plan to install the relay / SSR, inside the humidifier or outside?

Outside, im trying to automate it to turn on and off.

Good choice, instead of messing around inside the humidifier. Get a case and connectors if you wanna be fully modular, otherwise use the screw terminals already in place.

A humidifier would be rated at most 240 V, and your MCU 3.3 V ? Your good to go.

22 Watts @ 230V will only be about 0.1 Amps! You could use a much, much smaller than 40 amp. Careful though, an SSR may leak enough current to activate such a small load, a "regular" relay may be better.

Small SSR
"regular" Relay module, 5V
