I just started arduino project with the original arduino starter kit. I was trying to do the series circuit, where you need to push two switches simultaneously to light up the LED.
In photo.jpg (see attachedment), it DID NOT work for reasons I didn't understand. To troubleshoot it, I replaced the second switch with a wire (see photo(1).jpg), and the it worked.
I know it is very basic. I tried various things but couldn't figure out what went wrong.
If you have the circuit working with one pushbutton, try swapping the other pushbutton in its place. You could have a defective pushbutton. Otherwise, it should work with two if you push both at the same time. That pushbutton should make a closed circuit on either side so you might also try turning the button in the breadboard 180 degrees (same with the swap button).
I tried undoing everything, and redoing everything at different positions on the breadboard. Somehow it is working now....
it is really a mystery to me why it didn't work before...... I could have sworn I checked every single thing... making sure the legs were firmly connected, testing with different switches and LEDs and wires.....
I have used those little pushbuttons and they are touchy as far as making good contact with the breadboard. The legs are a bit too short so they barely plug in.
It could also be that your breadboard has a broken contact where you plugged stuff into it (or possibly you have a wire that has a break inside of it).
