ARDuino is not taking any code i give it

Did you do these steps?
Yes or No?

If you made these steps
Do you see a change of the comport-number in the device-manager?

I have a special question. Maybe user @ptillisch knows this:

The device-manager shows arduino micro
image

Though the board really has a Atmega 324U-chip

I made the following experiment:

taking a Arduino pro micro = Atemga32U4
adjusting arduino IDE to

Arduino micro (which of course is wrong)
and upload a small blink testsketch

uploading worked and after closing / opening the code runs?
Now after this wrong adjustment to Arduino Micro
the device-manager shows
image
Arduino Micro !

So my question at user @ptillisch is
from where does the device-manager take the comport-name?
from where does the IDE 1.8.19 take the comport name?

yes i did do this and the number did change and the device also said BOOTLOADER at the end for about 3 seconds

It is a good question! I explain it in the second part of the post here:

The modern system used by Arduino IDE 2.x is documented here:

https://arduino.github.io/arduino-cli/latest/platform-specification/#properties-from-pluggable-discovery

The legacy system used by Arduino IDE 1.x (and also supported by 2.x for backwards compatibility) is documented here:

https://arduino.github.io/arduino-cli/latest/platform-specification/#board-vidpid

For the "Micro" board definition, the USB VID/PID port properties are associated here:

And so Arduino IDE labels any discovered ports with those properties with the board name defined here:

Thank you. Uh ! wow. Never thought this would be so complex.

Thank you guys for all the help! i'm gonna give yall a huge shout out on stream today for the great imput!

It's not clear to me if you actually got the unit working correctly with both ports recognized and connected.

What's the present status?

This is the second time in a week that there is a Pro Micro clone with the 3 second bootloader. See Arduino pro micro keeps disconnecting - #8 by ueberuser.

Amen to that.

Yeah suit is definitely not working I have a new one coming Saturday so we will test again and see

After reading the page about the boot loader is it not normal for the boot loader to last 3 seconds it should be about 8?

I just read this page from last month do you think I should try this technique?

It should be around 8 seconds.

You do not have an corrupt installation; which post in that topic are you referring to? Your post #40 indicates that you have an access problem. I'm not sure why that would be.

Supper strange hopefully the replacement fixes this issue

Hello all After getting the new Micro controller that one was even worse then the one i had in the first place it was completely dead PC would not even recognize it as a usb device.

i was able to finish the little project i was doing here is the Finished video.

thanks again for all of the help everyone did it was truly awesome to have such a community of great people! hopefully i can try another ARDUINO Project again and maybe this time ill just buy the real device and not the generic version

thanks again!

I'm sorry that we weren't able to help you achieve success in using the cheap Pro Micro clone in your project, but I'm glad you were able to find an alternative solution. Great video!

If you end up keeping the Pro Micro boards in your parts stash, maybe you will later take another try at using them in a project. If you can manage to get through the inevitable learning curve and the additional complexity that can sometimes come with buying sketchy hardware, I think Arduino could end up being a very useful tool for such a resourceful DIYer like yourself.

i appreciate the kind words!

i am going to return these items as i feel like they are defected or something im sure there are few people running into this issue so know i know pay a little more and save a day and a half of headache!
