Arduino Micro Device not in Device Manager

I just got this arduino micro from a co-worker. It was purchased by someone who is no longer around. I would like to get this up and running so that I can play around and try some things out.

I have successfully installed Arduino 1.6.5, but when I plug in the arduino micro to the computer the light comes on but I can not see any device listed in my device manager. I have been reading up on the forum, but all the posts seem to mention something about how they found something in the device manager.

Please help! Thank you for your help.

Oh, I'm running windows 7 if that helps.

I've messed around with it for several hours, read lots of forums and can't find any info about how to get the device installed.

I also tried it on 2 different computers.

Thanks for any help.

An old thread but I had the very same issue. Tried a number of things, different USB cable, pressing reset button, tried a Vista machine instead of the Win7, back to Win 7 machine but the Micro would not show up in Device Manager.

Finally double and triple clicking the reset button it would recognize the USB device as an Arduino Micro but it failed to load the driver. After a couple more tries it successfully loaded the driver. Unfortunately not sure what the magic combination was to get it to work. I did hold reset button down while plugging in USB on the laptop and then double clicking it, maybe that was the solution...not sure.

Now it finds it every time it the USB is plugged in no matter which cable I use. Happy it is working, wish I knew why to help others.
