Arduino Nano and windows 7 and 10 not recognising the board (ft232r USB UART)

Hi,

I have a Arduino nano (part of a head tracker kit). I can get it all working and can calibrate it using a headtrackerGUI. It also responds in the GUI. However when attempting to use this in other applications (elite dangerous for eg) there is no response. I cant help think this is because windows 10 doesn't recognise the Arduino nano and it is masquerading as a FT232R USB UART (see screen grab).
The arduino board has an FTDI chip so i know its not a CH340 driver problem.

I have now tested this in windows 7 and I get the same issue.

Anyone any ideas?

Is it a official Arduino Nano ? Or one with a counterfeit FTDI chip ?
It was a big issue more than a year ago :

There are still Arduino Nano clones on Ebay with the counterfeit FTDI chip. The CH340G chips are okay. A Arduino Nano clone for about 6 dollars has a counterfeit FTDI chip.
