Arduino Nano not recognized on USB

HI. I have read numerous threads on similar problems and I have tried numerous solutions but nothing is working. Here is a recap of my problem.

I own several Arduinos. All of them work. Recently I ordered two Nano's and they arrived. I tried to plug them in to the exact same environment as the others and when I try to select the Serial Port, all I can see is the Bluetooth options. Not the /dev/usb-modemPort1242 option that I see with the Uno's. Just the four Bluetooth options (which of course do not work).

I tried:

  • reflashing the boards
  • installing and re-installing the FTDI drivers
  • plugging the arduinos in after/before the startup of the computer
  • re-ordering all my actions in various forms to see if it changes everything.
  • changed USB cables

All of this was tried on 3 different computers, two Macs and a PC. All with the same results.

I have no idea why the Nano will not be seen by the Arduino software (Oh, I tried the other IDE's too).

Does anyone have an idea of what I can try or should I just return them?

When you say reflashing the boards do you mean burning the bootloader? Just yesterday I tried out a Nano look-alike for the first time and had a similar difficulty. Based on a quick search, I suspected it had no bootloader. I used one of my other Arduinos to flash the Nano and that fixed the problem for me.

Post a link to the nano you bought. They may have a different USB to serial converter, for example the CH340, or a bricked FT232R

Chilli, please expand on your comment.

I am having the same difficulties

Thanks

Well, if you post a link to where the board were purchased from, or alternatively a picture of the boards I can tell what USB to serial chip is actually on the board and provide specific advice...
