So I am using Arduino IDE 1.8.19 and the tutorial says I have to choose my serial connection using the pull down tab. I don't have access to the tabs. I found another post, but that person was using a different version and the instructions did not work for me. I am using a Mac. If you need any more information just let me know. I am just looking for how to get access to those tabs, and or choose the port.
First, you are using the correct MAC version of the Arduino IDE correct? Not being a MAC user that's all I got.

Please post a link to that tutorial; I suspect it is for IDE 2.x.
In IDE 1.x, you use the menu tools → ports to select a port.
Hi @howie9090. For macOS users, the Arduino IDE menus are on the macOS menu bar instead of being part of the Arduino IDE window as is the case on Windows and Linux:
You should see those menu items at the top of you screen after you click on the Arduino IDE window. Do you see them now?
