I have managed to locate the Eagle CAD files for the orginal Arduino USB board. However, I am looking for the CAD files for the USB 2.0 and 2.1 boards.
Apparently the second version of the Arduino USB corrected the USB connector pinout and updated and was labelled "Arduino USB v2.0".
Some reseach shows that one of the files was labelled arduino_usb_v2.1.zip.
Does anyone have these files archived? I would really appreciated some help.
IIRC, the USB connector pinout was still wrong in the Diecimilia timeframe; one of the things pointed out as a failure of Arduino to live up to their "open source" claims, and leading to the FreeDuino.
Out of idle curiosity, is this some sort of retro computing project ?
There must be a good reason why you don't want to re-design the thing from scratch.
Thanks for responding – it is much appreciated! And apologies for being slow to get back to you.
I’m confused because after searching further I have seen a number of references that claim/state that the USB V2.1 cad files correct the original Arduino USB. All links to the sites from which one could download this file are now dead (obviously) and even substantial searching on Internet Archive hasn’t been fruitful.
I feel certain that someone out there has the relevant file: arduino_usb_v2.1.zip including BOM.
Ah 6v6gt... good question. I’d simply like to build and original USB Arduino – not a Diecimila or Duemilanove. Call it nostalgia if you like. It has been ages since I have wielded a soldering iron, so working on a through-hold board – a distant relative of today’s UNO -- would be good practice. Perhaps my interest in vintage computing is clouding my views though. Anyway I’d value some assistance.
Ah; I see. The Arduino USB was the last mostly-TH board; Diecimilia and later started using SMT passive parts.
Perhaps you would be interested in the "Freeduino" design. Created in 2007 when there were rumors that Arduino might go "closed source", we created several designs in various sizes of SMT components, and an aggressively through-hole board as well.
After some thought, a couple of vendors (mainly NKC Electronics, which doesn't seem to be around any more, but also Seeed Studio) sold kits based on this board.
AFAIK, no one is selling the board or PCBs any more - it became pretty irrelevant with the advent of cheap clones. But the design files are still available:
(note that if you try to make this from scratch, there is still the FT232RL USB/Serial chip that is a pretty fiddly 0.65mm pitch SMT part. The kits came with this pre-soldered to the PCB.)
I know it is not what you were asking for, but if you just want soldering experience on an Arduino board then the 'make your Uno kit' is available.
Unfortunately the addition of a 'synthesiser shield', plus a soldering practice board and rudimentary logic probe, which you may or may not want, makes it more expensive than a ready built Uno.
