Hello to everyone
Im not sure if i can pull this off, having never worked with electronics before but being retired i would love to try a small project i have in mind. I would like to try and make a button box for my grand kids to play around with. Something that has lighted switches and push buttons. Problem is i dont know where to start. I found a bunch of switches and buttons on ebay, pretty cheap and some inexpensive 12 volt power supply. I guess i need some good how to guides.
Any help or guide recommendations would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Wayne
Welcome to the group.
This thread has some ideas that you might find usefull/interesting.
Made this button box last year, start small then add to it. . . .

The easiest button box could be done using no microcontroller in case Your toolbox lacks programming experience.
Not appropriate for use with an Arduino or similar microcontroller.
These use 5 V (or 3.3 V which would be inconvenient for your project).
A particularly practical power supply for Arduinos is a USB "phone charger" which puts out regulated 5 V, generally about 1 Amp. A "power bank" is an option for battery power.
Now having just decried 3.3 V systems, it occurs to me that an ESP8266 with WiFi could connect to an internet server which might offer some quite fascinating options in the behaviour of the "button box". ![]()
The first thing that comes to mind does not even require the Internet as such, but would be to have two or even three "button boxes" communicating.
