The best ones I have used came with an official Arduino starter kit. These were a kit of assorted values from Welleman. The leads were relatively short and of large diameter which made them easy to use with a breadboard. The manufacturing quality was also high with uniform colour bands.
A "few" years back I also bought a 1/4W through hole resistor pack.
However, its still there mostly unused as I have switched to all smd components.
I use SMD components even on strip boards.
Bradboards are a different story of course but I very rarely use them as I could never get anything to work on one of those!
I totally agree. In my experience, breadboards are only good for the most basic projects. They don't really make any reliable connections between components at all!
I have been using solderless breadboards for almost 50 years and have had very little trouble that can be traced to the breadboards themselves. I have some Archer (Radio Shack) boards from the '70s that still work fine. Buy quality boards. Do not abuse the boards with too large conductors. Keep current below 500mA at most.
