Commission to help create an awesome christmas gift

The final product I am trying to create is a crystal ball that shows holograms of pictures for my daughter.

I would like the arduino to control a 1inch lcd (example of this linked below) and behave like a small digital picture frame. running a slide show of the images stored on a removable usb on to the screen. I will then put the screen at the bottom of a glass ball on a wooden stand and using a reflective sheet in the middle of the ball, it will project the image in the ball like a hologram. Sometimes this trick is called the "pepper's ghost effect".

The commission: While I have some understanding of copy/pasting and tweaking codes, I do not feel confident creating it as smoothly as I would like.

I need coding/instructions for the following

-the arduino to control the lcd
-run the slideshow on start up and continuously
-allow images to be added simply by loading them on the USB. I also plan to get her a usb
to iphone adapter, so she will likely plug the usb into her phone and load pics directly
from that. not sure if that changes anything

-a diagram of the pins to be connected from the arduino to the lcd (parts lists would be great. including better recs for the lcd)
-recommendation on the cheapest/most appropriate arduino to build this with.

Before committing to this project, it would be a good idea to buy a display and an Arduino, make a trial setup with a single image, and test whether it actually functions as you imagine.

Adafruit has a good selection of displays and MCUs, each with excellent getting started guides.

Hi @ashc87. Are you offering to pay someone to do this work for you?

The reason I ask is because the term "commission" you used has a connotation of a paid job. There is a "Jobs and Paid Consultancy" forum category specifically for offering paid work. If you are offering payment then I would move your topic there to ensure the people who are interested in such opportunities will see it.

The category you have posted in is generally used to request free assistance in accomplishing your project. The helpers in this category are happy to help you learn, but not often interested in doing your project for you.

You can probably just use a phone screen to test your pepper's ghost effect apparatus.

Thank you. ada fruit does look like it has a lot of good tools. The biggest thing I need to figure out is from watching examples of people programming these small lcd's is if there is a way to make them adaptable to different types of images (both size and format)

it's for my kid and I know if she needs to use a laptop to set pixel size and format type everytime she wants to add pics to it, it'll just collect dust.

That is certainly possible, but it is a large and painful programming job.

Consider making your gizmo out of an off-the-shelf digital picture frame. They are cheap and have been around for many years.

This one is out of stock, but has a 1.5" screen: https://www.amazon.com/Photosphere-Digital-Photo-Frame-1-5/dp/B000YZCF0E/
