communication between two node MCUs without using web page

I am able to establish communication between the two nodeMCUs directly without making use of any web page to transmit commands. One node MCU will behave as server which would have a boolean variable var and the other one as client having LEDs attached to it. I wish to control led functioning such that the variable var should be transmitted from server to client and glowing of LED should depend on high or low value of var. I will be grateful if anyone can help with the coding part

I had read that too, but there was no solution provided. They said it was possible to communicate directly. I want to know which functions should be used from the esp8266wifi.h library.
I wish to control the LED glowing by sending commands directly without use of any web page
