I'm organizing a workshop. One of the things I'm doing is preparing for a number of DIN-5 plugs to connect to sensors. I figured if I solder Male-Male jumper wires to a plug, and color code it, say red-5V BLK-gnd, green-ch0, blue-ch1, then I will save a lot of time and burned boards. I found these (12") at pololu but they are too expensive, 50 cents a wire.
Here is one:
I don't have to get 12" but 6" is too short. Anywhere I can get them cheaper, and without shipping slowly from overseas? I can't use the rainbow 10-color bundles. I have to toss away too many of them. Thanks.
Hi, ebay ebay ebay, all mine are ebay purchases, they all work, just the plastic jacket on some slips off.
Bit of glue and bingo, back in operation, only needing 4 colours would be the problem.
I bid at auction on ebay when I see them with free postage, most packs only cost me $1.00 or two.
Out of 10 colors I only need 4. The other 6 are not useful, not tossed but not useful. Think 16 noobs learning arduino and everybody has a different set of colors on their plugs.

If by "plastic jacket", you mean a "Dupont" sleeve, then the lock tab on the sleeve has been bent or and broken.
Mostly with rainbow cable, but sometimes with free wires, I take the sleeves off and fit the wires to multi-way sleeves to match the pinouts of USB to TTL adaptors, I2C backpacks, sensor modules and such. Using the smallest (blade) Jewellers screwdriver, I can lift the lock tab just enough to remove the sleeve without breaking it. So I have bought two, three, four, five and two-by-three way (the last for ISP cables) sleeves (by the hundred) and of course, I have plenty of single way sleeves from those leads I have swapped over.
Rather than get pre-made dupont wires, make your own. You can either get pre-cut wires with given ends of different colors, or just get the crimp connectors, and use your own colored stranded wire to make cables with the right number of connections, and the appropriate color. Here is where I buy the crimp terminals: Pololu - Crimp Connector Housings
Note, I find it much easier to attach the male crimps than the female. Note, I haven't bought the crimp tool, I just use needlenose pliers (which may explain why I have problems making the female connection crimps).
