External power supply for a Nano board

Hi Folks,

I have a question to the Nano board. For a Project (temperature measuring by using infrared) I need an external power supply. I connected a 9V battery to the Vin Pin but nothing happend. Later I measured the battery and it was down to below 8V.

After this I used an external supply device and connected it to the Vin again but nothing happend (With 9V).
So I adjusted 5V and connected the device to the 5V Pin and it worked.

So my questions is: Can I check the Vin Pin by using the USB port for power supply? Can I measure 5V or more on the Vin Pin when the Board is connected to my PC?

Thanks in advance!

No idea what you mean by that.

No, it's just a step down regulator from the input to the output. It's not magically a step up converter from output to input.

But it sounds like you killed the regulator... Did you try to power a lot? Like a servo? The onboard regulator can't power much. At 7V I would say max around 200mA and about 0 if powered from 12V...

I just asked, if it´s possible to measure a Voltage at the Vin Pin when it´s connected per USB. Similar to the 5V Pin!

When I got the board I checked the Vin Pin with the 9V Battery (one month before). Now I m close to finish this Project and I wanted to try the external supply.

Yeah maybe you are right. It seems that I killed the Regulator.

Ahh, okay. Then no

Ok, thank you for the Information!

EDIT:
Ok, here an update if you are interested. I measured some Points on the board. At first I checked the soldering Connection, there are no issues. After this I measured the incomming pin on the Regulator and I got a some voltage.
Then I measured the outcoming pins and there is nothing. So you were right. The Regulator is killed.

Thanks 4 help!
