The shift to USB-C is likely due to EU regulations that will be enforced by 2024.

Under the new rules, consumers will no longer need a different charging device and cable every time they purchase a new device, and can use one single charger for all of their small and medium-sized portable electronic devices….By autumn 2024, USB Type-C will become the common charging port.

That may be so, but it is still a false advertising, most likely due to the fact that Arduino is agressively shoving Portenta to the consumer. Considering that the average Arduino enjoyer is a DIY hobbyist and Portenta is astronomically expensive and complicated for the average consumer, I find this odd. I bought only genuine Arduino before and almost became a fan, until I bought Nano Connect. This is where we parted ways. Now things like this false advertising and agressive marketing towards industrial applications piss me off on top of lack of support for the product I bought.

It’s for a subset of common electronic devices - but as it becomes the most standard port for those and power adapters - economy of scale will drive everyone else to adapt to this as well (price for other port adapter won’t be as competitive as something produced in hundreds of millions sample every year)

Looks precisely accurate to me two functions in one cable and the second function is USB-C to mini USBC. They say nothing about what the other end is....

That style of cable unreliable anyway and 95% of USB connecctors I've seen use smd connections only, which require an outer case to absorb shock otherwise it will be too easy to rip off the pcb.

Though the whole thing is dumb, USB-C is solution looking for a problem that never existed as far as users are concerned. It was just falling profit margins at $amsung, $ony, and the rest of them, because instead of buying their $30 replacement cables, cabled that seemed designed to self destruct, they were buying $5 ones at the gas station? And they all lost a revenue stream on the cable themselves as chinese no-name companies sucked up marketshare faster than a black hole by lowering quality. That might have hurt them more except the changeover from Mini A and A to micro A was still underway then and cables got fell below a $!

"Yes...USB-C we'lll call it "C for Con" but marketing will need to come up with a better slogan, and we'll ,make it reversible hence three times as easy to plug in (the engineering folks facepalm, one of them call out "And three times as much to make") "That won't matter, I just got agreement from the EU parliment! It will be mandated by law! And in order to not need a second model, that'll cover the whole world!" (the USB consortium half expects to haer maniacal laughter).

"Uhh Sir this datasheet says it's 10-times more durable than mini-usb. But I rant te test macheine, that's only true if you compare real world microusb data with USB-C tested perfect;y by machine....no real-world connector would last that long...

It's all about money, How to get more of it from people. How can Arduino get more money? How can phone and cable companies get more money?

I straight up refuse to use antything with USB-C. You're being conned.

The only items that I use that use USB-C are my phone, where I had no choice because that's all they had, a kick$tarter portable monitor that uses it for power and came with a defective power supply

Not so odd as the "average" Arduino hobbyist likely does not own a genuine Arduino but a clone or some Espressif masquerading as an Arduino and doing a fine job of it, IMO.

The "old" experimenters of the past decade demand newer, faster, more capable modules. Arduino, like Raspberry Pi, needs additional revenue streams and the IDE effort alone is pouring money into the Mediterranean: for a small company, R&D is a significant drain.

I know Arduino Education has pushed into classrooms, but I have no knowledge of the percent-penetration in region-wide education systems. To create profits, one assumes that a rather large sale by numbers is necessary to offset expenses. Year-after-year sales is necessary to generate operating capital:
