good quality IR reciever and remote?

hello,
i have been playing around with some basic IR reciever and some cheap ir remote from ebay,
but i find them very directional and low range.

so can anyone recommend a good quality IR Reciever and remote or are they pretty much they same?

The guys at AnalysIR have some info on this subject as well. They have been very helpful for me in the past.

When you buy those eBay IR receivers you really don't know what you're going to get. I would suggest buying a Vishay receiver from a reputable source.

Yes, there's a lot of them. If you need help selecting a particular part then you need to describe your project.
