I am new to the Arduino and I was wondering if it is possible to hook up a Magnetic Detection Sensor Module straight to a USB to TTL converter to COM Cable Module without the Arduino. Can I get the digital output from the Magnetic Sensor module to my computer this way? Or do I need to hook it up through something else? Any help would be appreciated a lot. Thanks!
Magnetic Detection Sensor Module
Lots of capital letters, like we're supposed to know what a "Magnetic Detection Sensor Module" is.
Do you want to clue us in?
This module outputs values when a magnet is brought near it similar to a hall switch if you know what that is.
Yes, I know what a Hall Effect switch is.
Can I just get this straight: you're asking, on an Arduino forum, how not to use an Arduino?
Is that correct?
Okay, what I am trying to do is hook that straight to a usb-ttl converter (http://dx.com/p/pl2303hx-converter-usb-to-ttl-usb-to-com-cable-module-black-1m-150928) and use visual basic 6 to communicate to it via a com port. Is it possible or is a usb-ttl cable used for a different purpose? I am new to this.
Yes that is correct.
Looks to me like a reed switch. It has 3 pins. I don't see any mention of USB on the page. In fact that page doesn't mention much at all. But for $2.40 and a 3-pin interface I doubt it has USB support.
