is there any way for me to use HMC5883L sensor for detecting magnetic field strength?
That is what the sensor was designed to do, for certain ranges of field strength.
However the HMC5883L was discontinued years ago, so if you recently bought one, it is very likely to be counterfeit or fake.
There are many other magnetometers on the market, so study their datasheets.
what other sensors can you recommend?
