Home Distillery

Hi guys

A friend asked me to help him make his home still smart, He's making Vodka, Brandy and Gin
Anyone done this before, have a design/part list they willing to share.

Hi, @georgelza

Google;

arduino alcohol still

There are some projects that have been done in that field.

Tom... :+1: :coffee: :australia:

I can’t see what part the Arduino , except temperature control - you need to define those tasks

BTW is it legal to do this stuff ? Also easy to get it wrong and kill yourself

legal = yes.

i'm thinking various pressure and temp sensors...
maybe some valve control, based on above...
this is me starting to do research, friend be back mid Jan 2025,

Piece of cake for arduino. First study the parameters for alcohol distilling, for quality and for safety.

this is not my wheelhouse as the saying goes...

I'm helping a friend... not even sure what sensors should be fitted, pressure and temp, what valves etc...

sure easy peasy for someone that use to play with arduino platform. I'm more use to the Raspberry platform with Python.

Looking for something that has been done for the home distiller, to at min give me a indication of what sensors to install where and what pressers/temps to expect and potential relationship between them.

G

Surely, the friend has those parameters that match is still.

Unfortunately not in the US. That would be a fun project though. I'd put temperature sensors all along the column.

he's also just getting into it so no...
why i came here asking if anyone done this before with more experience that can guide us.
G

It all depends on the physical structure of the distillery.

What do other distillers tell you about stills? Are there different stills? Why would there be pressure? Are you just concerned about the actual distilling process or preparation for distilling?

Please state what country you are in.

Also look at the links at the end of this thread and you will find five other threads on the same subject.

Search this forum. A year ago I helped make a simulation of a distillry. A few more distillery topics exist.

Hopefully he is using a fractionating column to seperate the different alcohols

in which case all that should be needed is to measure the temperature of the vapour condensing at the top of the column, divert fractions into different receiving vessels, and maybe to control the heat input to the boiler.

thanks will do.
G

He's not doing them all at the same time....

let me just close this for now, figured i'd do some research while he's away... get some ideas etc to discuss with him... seem ppl are more interested in questioning me than trying to help with examples. thanks for those that is helping...

Installing an Arduino to automate equipment tends to be a unique, one-off design. Between the global reach of this forum and the unlikely possibility of two users having the same specialized equipment, members here are accustomed to helping people design their system and selecting their own parts.

Another aspect that complicates Arduino project parts lists is how many different Arduino board formats are available. Between shields (Arduino add-on boards like Pi Hats) and various other modules available, simply purchasing a relay board or temperature sensor often requires some time figuring out the requirements of the part before narrowing down the options.

You are welcome to take a look at other distillation Arduino projects here or elsewhere, plan on making something similar, and then ask specific questions in this topic. This method usually works well on this forum.

Good luck with your research and the subsequent project. Feel free to leave this topic open so your project has a dedicated discussion available here.

Yes, God forbid someone fully understand the project before responding.
