I want to do this but without the Strava app. I just want a regular horse race game. Can someone help me make this? Here's the weblink from Arduino forum:
Human race game
Have you started? What part do you need help with?
Try it with Neopixels (144 per meter). You will want to give advantages (who places first through last) before the race, because "random" is quite even, which is saying random is not random (for true computer-randomness you need lava lamps).
This shows a few ways to visualize random. I set this up to show "bars" but you can comment-out other functions.
I retired and moved to Louisiana to work on my different projects. I've been packing, moving, and unpacking. Sorry for not getting back to you. I printed the parts out but that's as far as I have got.
Thanks for that.
The data from Strava is tracking live data from a foot race, so for every 1/10 distance the runner goes on the race, the game moves the "horse" 1/10 the length of the field. Imagine any action that will produce data enough to advance each runner. If you know the gambling game "Pachinko", you can make a very un-involved DIY that registers each ball falling into a random slot. Just know that you will get a "bell" curve of balls so you might need to weight the results (or the game board) to evenly distribute the wins.
Simple DIY:

The game:
As a teacher, I really enjoyed the video of distribution. That is the easiest way to teach the subject. I'll forward it to my teacher friends. I love pachenko games. My friend had several his dad bought in Japan and we played them all the time. I have found some plans to build a rudimentary version but It's cheesy. Arduino would go great with the game. As for the horse racing game, I think I will work on that after getting the house mostly unpacked and put away. Horse race, ball drop and Pachinko games TBC but not given up on. Again thanks! Mike
Simple is the best solution. The pachinko results can advance the horses... as each ball actuates a limit switch.
Good luck with moving in. I helped someone move six times in four years... in the same town, but the effort is not much less.
Thank you. Yeah the move from Florida to Louisiana has been overwhelming. I never considered using the pachinko game to move the horses, so you have been a great help there. I'll keep you up to date if you want?
Remember, "Pachinko" is just an example of generating "clicks" in some random fashion. Let your mind wander. Have fun with it.
I plan to. I have a lot of time to enjoy going down rabbit holes now. Your suggestion was an Ah Ha! moment for me. Space has always been a problem for the games lying flat. Pachinko solves that. It won't have as many pins, and instead of making launchers, the player can take the ball from the bottom and drop it in the top, trying to get their high number movements for the horse. Perfect.
