How do I wire a 20x2 10-Pin LCD?

Hello everyone, I recently got a 20x2 LCD display, and I don't know how to wire it. It is a 10-pin display with what looks like an intimation hitachi driver. I found an instructable that tells you how to wire different displays, and after trying it out I could only get the top 20 characters to turn on with the resistance all the way up. They only showed up, no text was displayed. If you have had a display like this or know how to wire one, the help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you have had a display like this . . .

How would we know, we can't see yours?

Don

If the first row is ok, there is no reason the wiring is wrong. The display was correctly initialized?
Have you tried one of the various libraries examples?

If the first row is ok, there is no reason the wiring is wrong.

Not exactly . . .

The first row of blocks will show up if the power and contrast are correct. No additional wiring (correct or incorrect) or code is required to get this display.

You are right... I assumed that by "characters" he meant "text"...
and didn't read what was next.

And I assumed 'blocks' which may or may not be correct.

Until he provides more information we can only guess.
