How to fix pins into your board

I have an Arduino mega like shown, when I try insert header pins they are loose and easily fall out.

Is this a common issue and how do I overcome this or have a picked up a cheap replica board ??

Either way what can I do?

Post a link to the product page for the "header pins" you are using. Perhaps they are the wrong size. Also take and post a photo of the actual Arduino board you are using.

You could have used pins that were too big at one point and damaged them. Likely too small though. Did the board get too hot at any point? How many times were the pins installed and removed?

Otherwise, I'd suggest getting de-soldering wick and removing the existing female headers. You could replace them or hardwire it after that.

Just by the photo, that board looks weird….
Could you post a link from where you bought the mega and headers?
Counterfeit arduino detection article link:

Using a blunt blade, lift the plastic surrounding the pins, then pull the plastic out, tighten the "forks" and reassemble the plastic.

That photo was a google search lol.

Okay so the pins should be much tighter, I might just buy an offical board. My the ones on my local second hand website are clones.

No, this photo was not retrieved from google.
I took this photo from an old arduino I have here.

Maybe even have it on google, because I had already posted it in another topic here in the forum.

I was replying to post 4 with that comment

So much oxidation...

I live near the beach in a coastal city, and the corrosive rate here is higher than the average for coastal cities.
This arduino da has been "retired" because of oxidation.

Use a screw terminal shield like this with a piggy back power distribution board. About $30usd for both plus less than an hour of fab. Requires some soldering for PDB.

Terminal shield on top of mega on top of 3d printed base.

Power Distribution Board simplifies wiring and has cool RGB color change power LED!

Completed assembly ready for wiring.

One method of making interconnects with dupontscand 3d printed shrouds.

Complete mega stack

  • PDB
  • Screw Terminal Shield
  • Mega 2560
  • 3D printed mounting base

The 3d stuff is available on cults3d.com

I've had the same issue on Mega pro mini that had had Duponts in and out so many times,
If they didn't fall out there where bad connections.

I pushed in male headers and switched to female dupont's, it then works fine.
