Hi,
Basically I want a pole(able to life a piece of light plastic) that will start from size X and will get to size 4X(not in precise just not 2X). Something like this but controlled by servo and will be able to be lifted slowly:
The linear actuators that I found are not good for me because they are big and can only make twice the size.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
By "size", do you mean "length"? How willing and able are you to modify something if you actually find such a component? Do you also need to retract the pole?
I don't think it is a fake, just more of a novelty.
It looks to me as though the item is a helically wound spring made from a broad tape, which when compressed it's length is equal to the width of the tape. When the safety catch is removed it springs back to its uncompressed length.
Get some telescoping pvc tubing from a source like McMaster-Carr. Take apart a metal tape measure so that you can attach a motor to the spool shaft. Be careful to remember how the spring was installed. Mount the tape measure to the lowest tube and attach the free end of the tape to the smallest tube. Turn motor in one direction to lift and the other to retract.
I also agree with this solution, and it includes a reversible 12 volt motor with friction drive so no worry about over extending or over collapsing. Plus you can stop the movement at any point.
There is no room inside a "magic telescopic stick" to put an Arduino. My best guess would be you have to cut one in half and mount the two halves on a larger handle to make room for an Arduino, battery, and trigger mechanism.
What would be the advantage of triggering with an Arduino?
Thanks for the comments, i'll try to answer everybody. @Paul_KD7HB Yes I mean length, I don't need to retract the pole. @killzone_kid@cedarlakeinstruments Do you have any videos/photos that explain the mechanism? It sounds good but how does it work? @EmilyJane Not sure I completely got it, if you could make a quick sketch of it it would be nice @TomGeorge A demonstration of a plastic plant growing out of a pot
