How to measure a vehicle with a high accuracy with mm?

Then how do you suppose the controller knows where to direct the end effector?

If there are 3 or more WiFi networks in your area that can be received with differing dB (RSSI). you can use WiFi to get your starting points and point corrections. Consider using the Machine Learning algorithm KNN (Closest Known Neighbour) as a way to ID the point locations.

Like in roomX at a spot in the room with 3 WiFi RSSI's giving; say, -35,-78, and -89 db's. More WiFi RSSI's the more accurate the location. That point in the room can be used to dead reckon from until the thing gets to another RSSI intersecting point. At which time the things position could be updated. and the dead reckoning can be reset.

Anyways, that's an idea which has its pros and cons.

Why would a stepper setup like what is on a 3d printer work? It would be fairly accurate if tuned properly. And of course you would have to have a switch to home it.

Why , if the THING runs along "tracks", do you need 2 axis ?? Surely you know where the "track"is !

Well if you'd explained that.... Simple, linear encoder strip/scale (optical or magnetic are available).

Good search terms: "motion control", "DRO", "linear scales"

sounds good ! okay, now I am revealing, what I am planning to do:

i wanna built a 3D Printer for building a house. Yes, you heard it right, a 3D Printer for building a house  Now everyone here goes "booooooom"

I have a investor, so therefore, there is no problem with money.

They, you know who they are, have already printed houses.

Let me get this straight: you are building something that moves on rails. You have absolutely no idea how to measure its position to within a millimeter, even though that's been a solved problem for decades, but you somehow managed to convince someone to give you money to build this thing?

Man, I should be so lucky!

ehmmm, yes. I am a beginner. But: I am an absolute talented beginner. I have never heard of Arduino or MicroController, never! And I had never a clue of electronics. Sicne 2 years, I came in touch with Arduino, and I thought: WOW

Yes, I even have a product on the market which works absolute well. It has been controlled by real educated electricians. They had no worries about my first product. And to be clear: I am absolute sure in what I am doing. And I am absolute convinced that I could build a 3D House-Printer. No doubt to that. Of course there are little problems like this topic here... but I can run Steppers, GPS, 433 MHZ ,, in other words: I learnded somethink

Okay, and my inestor who has much money, is... let me say... a man who even don't know how a human is build, but he has much money  And, he absolutely trusts in me.

I even could build my own 3D Printer (for small parts with PLA).. no doubt about that.
