How To Use This Infrared Receiver

I don't know if this is where to put this thread but I have a question about an IR receiver. It came in two pieces and I don't know how to hook them up. It doesn't show in this image but there are three wires with it. Could you point me in the direction that shows how to put these together?
I have an idea how it could go together. Put the receiver in the pins in the board by the red light, bend the receiver up and hook the wires to the pins at the bottom and hook those to a breadboard.

The 3-pin socket on that board may be intended for the receiver, but the markings are not consistent ("IN" on the socket might correspond to "OUT" on the receiver).

I tried the way I mentioned and it worked, after I put the receiver in the right direction. I didn't bend the receiver, I left it straight.
