How to waterproof underwater pressure sensor?

Dear all,

I have a waterproof container with an arduino in it, with a waterproof wire exit hole for power + signal. What would be a good way to use these types of pressure sensor to detect the depth of the waterproof container? What do you guys recommend?

Thanks!

A balloon may work.

I'd put a hole in the side of the case and seal the inlet of the sensor to the hole with plenty of silicone adhesive caulk.

You should use an 'absolute' pressure sensor so you don't have to worry about the pressure inside the case changing.

Wouldn't the water seep into the hole and damage the sensor? Also, similar to that, could I use a thin tubing and connect the hole with the sensor so its removable? Would there be some distortion of pressure within the hole?

Of course if you are measuring water pressure you should use a sensor that is designed for liquids.

If you connect via a tube and the pressure causes the tube to expand you may get a leak. Perhaps you should get a sensor that is designed to fit a bulkhead. That would probably include nuts and o-rings to clamp the sensor in a hole in the case.
