should i connect to a breadboard but idk if a breadboard can handle a 12 volt motor

No, it can't. Breadboards are for temporary experiments with low power logic circuits.

Solder connections to the motor and motor driver.

On one side there is a white band with many ----.
That wire should go to ground.
