IDE 2.2.1 flashes on screen briefly, won't open

Hi - I've been running IDE 2.2.1 on Windows 11, used it as recently as last week with no issues. Today when I tried to open it, the window flashes briefly (partially off the screen) then disappears. It remains in my Windows taskbar and I can see the window is open if I alt+tab, but any time I try to select it, it just flashes very quickly (like one frame) and disappears again. It appears to be the same issue described in this thread, but it's not clear what the OP there did to solve the problem:

I have tried rebooting my PC and uninstalling/reinstalling the IDE, still having the same issue.

Replying to my own post in case this is useful to people in the future...I am on a dual-monitor setup, with a 1080p monitor set as the primary and a 4K monitor as the secondary. I switched it so the 4K monitor was the primary and the IDE window immediately appeared (on the 1080p monitor). I am able to close the IDE and re-open it and it appears fine. I switched back to 1080p as the primary monitor and it will still open fine. So, not sure what happened, before but could this be related to dual-monitor setups? As of now I am unable to reproduce the bug.

Is it possible that you had the IDE open on the secondary monitor? I'm not sure why it would not show on the secondary monitor though.

I assume that this is on a Windows system as it seems to be a Windows "feature".

Next time you can try the following:

  1. Select the IDE in the taskbar.
  2. Press <ALT><space>.
  3. 2x cursor key down.
  4. Press <enter>.
  5. You can now move the window to the other monitor using the cursor keys or by moving the mouse.

This can be practiced on a single monitor as well

Sorry my original post wasn't clear - the IDE was flashing open off the left edge of the primary monitor, not the secondary. I also saw another thread about trying alt+space then pressing M which would allow you to click and move a window (and possibly recover it from being offscreen) but that didn't work. If it happens again I'll try your trick to see if it works.

In general I've found Windows 11 to be pretty well-behaved with the dual monitor setup, haven't had any strange off-screen/unable to open behaviors with programs other than this instance with the Arduino IDE. Will see how it goes...

It's without the "click"; just move the mouse or use the cursor keys. Just try it the next time

It probably is but this issue has been around for ages with various applications and versions of Windows.
