I'm getting an error on ESP32

I'm getting this error.

I'm trying to flash the bin file but it's not working. I'm trying to do it through the Arduino IDE but it's not working. I've tried holding down the boot button, then pressing the reset button, and then trying again, but it's still not working. Is there a possibility of bricking the device? Bruce, I'm trying to flash the firmware but unfortunately it's not working.

You can try a few simple things first, as they often solve this kind of problem:

  • Use a different USB cable (preferably one known to support data transfer).
  • Disconnect anything connected to the ESP32 GPIO pins.
  • Select the correct ESP32 board in the IDE.
  • Try a lower upload speed (e.g. 115200).
  • If your board package allows it, try changing the flash mode (QIO ↔ DIO).

The important part of your log is:

WARNING: Failed to communicate with the flash chip

The ESP32 itself is detected and the bootloader starts correctly, so this doesn't look like a typical "BOOT button" issue. The upload only fails once communication with the external flash begins.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Exactly which ESP32 board are you using (picture or web link).
There are many ESP32 variants.
Which board did you select in the IDE.
Which partition scheme did you select.
"Maximum is 31445728" points to larger than the default 4Mb flash (with OTA).
Posting the sketch (inside code tags!!!) could help.

Please, no screen shots of code or messages.

Click on the Copy Error Messages button then come back here and click on <CODE/ > icon and do a paste where it tells you to.

Bruce who?

I don't think Springsteen, Willis or Wayne are forum members!

Didn't pressing the RST button work?

No dont work

I'm using an ESP32 WROOM U model. I selected the ESP32 Dev Module in the Arduino IDE. However, even after trying various ESP32 flasher applications, I'm getting the same error.

I never used or had to use anything else than the Arduino IDE.

Holding boot and pressing reset for a second or plugging in USB while holding the reset button. always worked for me.

Did you already try a different USB cable.
Charge-only of course won't work, but cheap, long and flimsy might not work too.

You can try uploading with "erase all flash" once (set it back to normal after that).

It can be a faulty USB cable or maybe the board itself is damaged because usually pressing the RST button solves this kinda problems.
