Is it a bad idea to put a NEO 6M in a 3d-print PLA case?

Hello, I've started working on a project that uses the NEO-6M GPS module. I've heard that the module and antenna are very sensitive to static and get damaged if handled carelessly. So I've only handled them while using ESD gloves. I wanted to avoid this inconvenience putting it on some sort of case so I don't touch it directly when moving it around. So I thought of placing it inside something like this NEO-6M CASE (GY-GPS6MV2) by sashok8050 - Thingiverse. However I've read that plastics could also generate static and damage the gps.
So I was wondering if maybe I'm being too paranoid and this is unlikely, or should I enclose it in something different.

From where?

Normal circuit care was good enough here.

Where? I've used a plastic box for years without any failure.

Agreed.

Lmao, good to know. I had heard from some seniors who used one of these and apparently broke it down due being careless with how they picked it up.
The plastic thing was in other questions of similar topics, but granted, they could've been using more sensitive components.
Anyways, thanks for the answer!

So no cow on the ice as we say here.

That is true of the actual GPS module itself, they are indeed quite sensitive to static damage. Ublox publish an application note that mentions this.

In most cases, when the GPS module is used on a PCB, such as a typical NEO 6M board, the recommended (by Ublox) static protection for the antenna pin is in place, so whilst the static damage risk still exists its reduced.

If your using a bare module GPS module as in the picture below to make your own GPS board;

Take strict static precautions when handling them, the antenna input is indeed easily damaged by static.

Then every mount and case I've printed and mounted my PCB's in/on would blow up every circuit board. It hasn't happened yet.

Thanks for the feedback guys, that's one thing less to worry about I guess.

If it helps, I've covered over 5,000 km with a Neo6m + Nano + SD inside a PLA case.
No problems, and the case didn't warp inside the glove compartment either. :wink:

I can't find any photos of the case but believe me it was PLA.
