Is the MAX6675 K Type Thermocouple waterproof?

Hey, I'm working with a MX6675 to use in a circuit on a chemically powered car.
I want to be able to read the temperature of the car's solution that powers it so I can know when to turn on or off the heating elements (to regulate the temperature of the solution).
In order to do that, I need a thermocouple that is waterproof. Is the MAX6675 waterproof out of the box or would I have to do that manually?
Thanks,

The MAX6675 is an IC not a thermocouple. Are you refering to some module/board that uses the IC?

Oh, sorry I guess I've gotten things mixed up.

So the MAX6675 is the actual module I'm using, and I'm using a K type thermocouple wire along with it. The wire is metal and looks a little something like this?

It might just be me not doing thorough enough research, but I'm concerned if the wire could be damaged by water and give incorrect readings?

I've been submerging the metal end of the wire in the water, none of the actual module or the jumper wires that connect it

I can't find anything that says it is waterproof.

Your actual thermocouple is INSIDE the threaded metal housing. If the metal housing tip is the only part in the water, then it is waterproof.

Are you asking if it is waterproof or acid-proof.
I doubt it will last long in vinegar and baking soda.

The metal end looks like stainless steel to me.

The braid could be, but the business end is likely a nickel, chromium and aluminium.

Assuming the metal housing is sealed but how do you know?
Do you have one you can test?

I have a similar sensor from China.
The metal braid is uncovered and will let any liquid be sucked onto the cable. The crimp connection is not sealed as well.
My sensor is definitely not waterproof.
I'm not using such sensors and buy quality thermocouples instead and connect it to the sensor module.

Here is a pic:

Oh, I see. Could you recommend a place to buy some quality thermocouple wires? I think the only requirement for using it along with the MAX6675 module is that the wire is K type right?

i‘m from Germany and buy from sensorshop24.de. You can use any waterproof Type K Element with a suitable form factor.
However waterproof thermocouples have a limited temperature range du to the sealant material used.
Thats why a previous poster asked you for the expected temperature range.
This is what I would use. Waterproof IP67 Universal K Type Thermocouple Temperature Sensor

Do you have the ability to spot weld the two wires together so you can form the thermocouple?

You cannot use grounded thermocouples with that board.

I have never seen grounded thermocouples. I do not doubt however, that you are correct. Could you post a link to an example.

Thanks a lot. This is interesting for one of my specialprojects.

Do you mean chemical proof or water proof.
Thermocouples can be bought for many different mediums so it is important you buy the correct one.
Most general purpose K-types are in metal sheaths, but you can get other varieties.

Just use a conformal coating on the Max device
