Hi,
I'm very new to this but can anyone point me in the right direction. I'm a developer by trade but want to dabble in arduino and pi projects.
For my first project I want to be able to be notified if I tag goes past a certain point like a door or something. For that the reader at least needs to be able to read 1.5m.
Do you have advice on what I would need to start or research this? Is it possible with arduino?
Advice, Yes. Research commercial devices that fit your requirements. Then zero in on those that fit your needs and try to discover the parameters they are using, such as RF frequency, power, etc.
Thank you. I have looked at the commercial ones. My requirements would basically be uhf rfid reader but it's too pricey for experimental projects.
Your choice, I guess. Do you think there is a reason why you can't find equivalent hobby priced devices?

Might cost less to use BLE beacons and estimate distance by RSSI.
