My Arduino Nano V3 CH304 keeps showing this error message

I have checked the cable, it works on my phone since it's a type C, it both charges the phone and allows me to transfer photos. The only thing i did to the board was solder some wires to it. The Arduino IDE is showing only "COM1" as an option and in Device Manager under Ports(COM&LPT) the only thing listed is "Communications Port(COM1)

can you share pictures (in focus, good quality) of both sides of your board and soldering job ?

I hope it's ok. This was my 1st time soldering. Also when plugged in, the L led keeps blinking and the POM led is constantly on, so i figured that the board gets power.

you soldered something on pin 0 and 1.
Pin 0 is Rx and shared with your USB port ➜ it is used when uploading code... unplug whatever is on the other side of pin 0 and 1 when you upload code.

Yea that is a cable coming from the bluetooth module. I unplugged the bluetooth module alltogether then tried again. Same error

  • Does COM1 disappear when you disconnect the board from the PC? If not, it's not the Nano.
  • Did you install the CH340 driver?
  • Which processor option did you choose under Tools/Processor in the IDE? Try all three, with clones there is a good chance that you have to choose the "old bootloader" option.

The COM1 doesn't disappear.
Yes I installed the CH340 driver and it kept telling me "The driver is successfully Pre-installed in advance!"
I tried both the ATmega328p(old bootloader) and the ATmega328p, both didn't work.

can you unsolder the wires from pins 0 and 1 - making sure there is no "bridge" between the 2 pins?

I think in windows it should mention ch340, not just com1

You get that message when the installation process does not see the CH340 chip. That is normal if the board was not connected but if you installed while the board was connected it is an error in the detection of the chip.

You will have to sort out that issue.

Did it work before you soldered any wires?

I'll try this and come back with an answer.

I know this sounds exactly like a rookie mistake but i didn't test it before soldering the wires. Lesson learned.

Do you happen to know how i may sort that issue? With the CH340 driver? I couldn't find anything online

I do not know for sure; these are things that I can think of.

  1. Because you have a few more wires than just the Tx/Rx, disconnect them all.
  2. Time to provide a schematic/wiring diagram so we can see what is/was all connected.
  3. Arduinos come preloaded with the blink sketch; is the L LED flashing with 1 second on, one second off?
  4. Buy another cable; I know that you said that it worked with a phone.
  5. Is there any chance that you can read the print on the chip on the bottom of the board where you can clearly see the print; you will have to play a little with the light and might have to angle the board a bit before you can see it. Below an image of my clone Nano. If there is nothing, there are known issues with boards that are missing the print on the CH340 although the symptoms that are here on the forum are different.

  6. If you can't see the print, uninstall the driver and load an older version (see Port monitor error: command 'open' failed: Invalid serial port. Could not connect to COM serial port - #49 by ptillisch); do not allow Windows to update the driver. If you are already using an older driver, you don't need to do this step.

Also, abandon any 3+m long usb cable, dont use usb hub, pray, restart windows...

The bottom of my board is the same as yours, CH340C.
I think the led is flashing faster than 1 second on 1 second off.
When i try to uninstall the CH340 driver it says "No device found"

I have restarted several times, nothing changed.

I can unfortunately not help you with that; but to my knowledge it should also not be needed as you can read the print.

I'm basically out of options; try the different points that I gave in post #14.

How you tried to uninstall? With WCH setup?
