I got my nRF24s working with this Tutorial

I suggest you use the TMRh20 version of the RF24 library - it solves some problems from the ManiacBug version

The pair of programs in this link may be useful.

I presume your programs (or mine) are NOT going to be used with real trains :slight_smile:

Don't try to get a complex system working all at once. Develop each piece separately - wireless communication, reading GPS, displaying on LCD etc. Only join them together when you can get them all to work separately.

digitalRead returns the level of an IO pin.
gps.speed() will return some number, maybe a valid pin number, maybe not, and the result of that read will be 0 or 1.
I don't think that's what you want.
