Need opinions. On battery charger :)

Hi all, this isn't a Arduino question. but it is some what similar. I have a 3S 11.1V LiPo Balancing Charger, 1.8A and i was going to use a 12V 2.5A DC power supply for it. That was the closet i could find to it. Do you think it will work? or will it cause it to over heat and ultimately burn out?

 Thanks

The charger instruction book should cover what the input power requirements are for the charger? If you don't have such information perhaps a link to the manufacture/model would get you more information.

Actually, there's a good chance that the power supply won't be enough: battery chargers usually require a couple of volts of "headroom", much like the regulator on the Arduino board. It's possible to design a charger that doesn't, but it's more expensive, so it's usually not done.

The odds are that the power supply won't damage the charger, but that it also won't make it charge batteries correctly. But that's just a probability, and it's a bet I wouldn't make unless I were desperate.

You really need to find documentation on the charger.

I run my cheap 3s lipo charger off an old PC power supply, works fine.
