PCB copper clad Stencils?

I've been looking all over but they may not even exist...

What I thought would be pretty cool, a plastic stencil with IC cut outs of various sizes, dip, sop, sip, smd etc etc... all you would do is place the stencil on top of the copper clad using a marker suitable, simply fill in the gap leaving a solder pad footprint on pcb all one does then is draw in the tracks and finish it off.

There was something like that once, years and years and years ago (obviously not SMD).
It is quite easily to etch your own stuff though.

There are co,s that cut kapton stencils to order.

Digikey does individual ss ones but they are pricey.

Not quite what you're suggesting, but you could use rub-down etch resistant transfers.

I'm trying to find someone who's willing to design / manufacture them..

Not particularly convenient for you, but:

Im currently waiting on some kapton stencils from a mate with a laser.
If they are ok maybe you could generate the relvant artwork and ill give it a go.

Problem i have is im in uk and kapton is difficult to get.

Im currently using tape and stripping the adhesive.

The whole "use a marker to apply etch resist" thing did not work very well :frowning:
