Position sensors for low range distance and high accuracy

Hello there. I'm doing an Arudino project where I need to measure the distance of an object in movement.
The max distance will be below 30 cm. I would like the accuracy to be as high as possible, below mm if possible.
I would like to know what sensors do you recommend.

You may have to combine 2 sensors and switch out for the desired 1mm resolution.

Micron accuracy is possible, if you are willing to pay for it. Sensor cost is roughly in inverse proportion to the precision and accuracy (they are not the same things).
